ITC Avant Garde Gothic originated from the typeface used in the logo and headlines for Avant Garde magazine. Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase collaborated on its design at Lubalin Design LLC. Ed Benguiat developed the font in 1974, with its oblique versions created by Andre Gurtler, Erich Gschwind, and Christian Mengelt in 1977.
This font family includes five weights along with four condensed styles and their complementary counterparts. Its bold design and geometric structure make it perfect for logos, posters, and display work. Digitization brought changes, with ligatures and alternate styles merged into one version for simplicity. ITC Avant Garde Gothic is now a favorite for designers looking for a striking, modern typeface.
