Times New Roman is a classic serif font designed in 1931 by Stanley Morison and Victor Lardent. Originally created for The Times newspaper in London, it focused on readability and space efficiency. Clean lines and a professional style made it one of the most widely used fonts in both print and digital formats.
Key features include traditional serifs with subtle curves, strong contrast between thick and thin strokes, and compact letterforms that fit more text per line. These qualities made it ideal for newspapers and later for academic papers, books, and official documents.
While still popular, many designers now prefer alternatives like Georgia or Garamond. These fonts offer better readability on screens and a more modern feel.
